The tiger eye is a variant of quartz, with the addition of fine-grained brown iron or limonite. The mineral is formed by the conversion of crocidolite from hawthorn to quartz. Unlike quartz, it contains golden asbestos fibers, which gives it a golden color. The color of the tiger eye is mainly yellowish brown to golden brown. But there are also different colored tiger eyes: blue, red and gold.

Common locations: Burma, India, South Africa, Western Australia and the United States
